Verna Marie Buck

Verna Marie Buck, 90, of La Plata, Missouri, passed away Friday, August 30, 2024, at The Pines in Kirksville, Missouri.
Born November 29, 1933, in Mendon, Missouri, the daughter of Robert E. and Eva M. (Billups) Pippin. On June 16, 1951, in La Plata, Missouri, she was united in marriage to Bobby Buck who preceded her in death on January 26, 2013.
Also preceding her in death were her parents; one daughter, Patricia Lynn Kirkpatrick; four sisters, Stella Tuggle, Peggy Thomas, Judy Brown, and Cora Voyles; two brothers Jimmy and Virgil Pippin; one son-in-law, Leonard Hamlin; and one daughter-in-law, Joyce Buck.
Surviving are three sons, Michael Buck of La Plata, Missouri, Eddie (Sharon) Buck of Kirksville, Missouri, and W.R. “Dub” (Barbara) Buck of Kirksville, Missouri; one daughter, Bobbi Lou Hamlin of Kirksville, Missouri; two brothers, Glen (Sherry) Pippin and Loren (Patsy) Pippin, both of La Plata, Missouri; twelve grandchildren, Lynnette and Jimmy Kirkpatrick, Emily (Josh) Hettinger, Adrienne (Eli) Black, Holly Funk, Carmen (Mike) Hopkins, Paul Aaron (Natalie) Wiseman, Wesley Robert (Alisha) Buck, Bradley Cain (Katie) Buck, Dakota McKenzie, Nancy McKenzie-Adams, and Eva “Bucky” Buck; eleven great grandchildren and three great-great-grandchildren; and several nieces, nephews and cousins.
Verna lived most of her life at Cardy, Missouri. She was a 1951 graduate of La Plata High School. She was a member of the First Baptist Church of La Plata, American Legion Auxiliary of La Plata, Loyal order of Moose Lodge in Kirksville, and Order of the Eastern Star. Verna was also a proud member of the Gifford Women’s Softball Team. She loved playing softball with the kids.
Verna was known as the “Farmer’s Wife”, writing news articles for the local newspapers about the happenings of the surrounding area. She enjoyed fixing food for church dinners and for families who had lost a loved one, and entertaining friends and family. Most of all, Verna loved going dancing with her husband, Bobby.
Funeral services will be 11:00 am Saturday, September 7, 2024, at First Baptist Church in La Plata, Missouri. Burial will be in the La Plata Cemetery.
Visitation will be Friday, September 6, 2024, with family receiving friends from 6:00 pm to 8:00 pm at Travis Funeral Chapel in La Plata, Missouri.
