Glenn Gail Wood, age 76, of La Plata, Missouri, passed away at home surrounded by his family on November 21, 2023.

Glenn was born on June 24, 1947 in Kirksville, Missouri, the son of Gail Wood and Roma (Wilson) Wood. On December 18, 1966, Glenn was united in marriage to the love of his life Karen Voyles. Shortly after their marriage, Glenn left to serve in the United States Army in the Vietnam War.

Glenn is survived by his wife Karen; his loving daughters, Kayla (Matt) Belt and Kelcey (Ralph) Smith; four grandchildren, Weston (Cali) Smith, MaKay (Ty) Hettinger, Baylon (Faith) Belt, and Logan (Tatum) Smith; Glenn’s seven great-grandchildren, Hazel and Okla Hettinger, Tynlee and Wilzee Belt, Luke, Jerzie, and Navy Smith held a special place in his heart.

Also surviving are his five siblings, Gene (Judy) Wood, Charla (Tom) Cupp, Tamera Wright, Betty Lu (Jimmie) Moore, and Mishel (John) Beever; two sisters-in-law, Debbie (Gary) Simmons and Penny Wood; one aunt, Betty Wilson; and several nieces, nephews, and cousins.

Glenn was preceded in death by his parents, Gail Wood and Roma (George) Rodriguez; one brother, Jerry Lee Wood; his in-laws, Loy and Ruby Voyles; and brothers-in-law, Larry (Cora) Voyles and Kenneth Wright.

Glenn was a 1965 graduate of La Plata High School. He was a long time member of the Community Presbyterian Church in La Plata, where he served as an elder and Sunday school teacher for many years. He enjoyed helping each of his four grandchildren sculpt their own relationship with Christ. Glenn was a member of the La Plata American Legion and La Plata Masonic Lodge. He was a well-known meat cutter for forty-eight years. His favorite being at C&R Market in La Plata where he provided a welcoming smile and many laughs for several community members.

Glenn’s whole world was his family. His love and wisdom created a foundation for a legacy that will live on forever.

Visitation will be held at Community Presbyterian Church in La Plata on Monday, November 27, 2023 from 5:00-7:00 p.m. Masonic services will be at 4:30 p.m. at the church.

Funeral services will be at Community Presbyterian Church in La Plata on Tuesday, November 28, 2023 at 10:30 a.m. Burial will be at Missouri Veterans Cemetery in Jacksonville at 2:00 p.m.

Pallbearers will be Matt Belt, Ralph Smith, Weston Smith, Baylon Belt, Logan Smith, and Ty Hettinger.

Memorials in memory of Glenn may be made to the Community Presbyterian Church of La Plata. They may be sent to or left at Travis Funeral Chapel, 125 S. Church St., La Plata, MO 63549.
