John Luther O'Haver, age 77 of La Plata, Missouri, passed away Thursday, September 15, 2022 at his home.

Born July 16, 1945 in Kirksville, Missouri, the son of Lewis O'Haver and Betty Knight. On June 20, 1971 in Macon, Missouri, he was united in marriage to Raelyn Sue Goodhart who survives.

Also surviving are two daughters, Rhonda Easley of Columbia, Missouri, and Tammy Brumbaugh of St. Joseph, Missouri; two sons, George (April) O'Haver of La Plata, Missouri, and Michael (Abby) O'Haver of La Plata, Missouri; three brothers, James (Jim) O'Haver of La Plata, Missouri, Donnie O'Haver of Kirksville, Missouri, and Vernie O'Haver of Kirksville, Missouri; two sisters, Karen (Eddie) Salsberry of Kirksville, Missouri, and Brenda Holloway of Kirksville, Missouri; eleven grandchildren, Cameron O'Haver, Tiffany Easley, Destiny Mozee, Linsey (Kelso) Johnson, Azura (O'Haver) Byrn, Seraiden O'Haver, Zane O'Haver, Keyton O'Haver, Mirek O'Haver, Kooper O'Haver, and Hadley O'Haver; and six great grandchildren, Leiagh, Kinsley, and Hazley Johnson, Cohen O'Haver, and Stella and Olivia Armstrong.

His parents, one brother, Gary O'Haver, one sister, Shirley Knight, and one sister-in-law, Cheri O'Haver preceded him in death.

John was a helpful, generous, kind, yet ornery man. He spent most of his time with family and almost always had grandchildren and great grandchildren around to keep him company. John loved his entire family, but his greatest love of all was his love for his wife of fifty-one years. He would move mountains and walk to the end of the earth for Sue each day if he had to and do it all with a smile. He admired old cars (especially '57 Chevys), and enjoyed fishing, playing cards, tending to cattle, and was a big Elvis Presley fan.

In his earlier years, John dug graves by hand for Travis Funeral Chapel. He later worked for the Water Department followed by the Street Department in La Plata, Missouri. After retiring from the City of La Plata he continued working mowing lawns for several years and enjoyed helping Sue by delivering her homemade pies and other goodies.

His kindness, orneriness, and most of all his gentle smile will be dearly missed.

Visitation will be Sunday, September 18, 2022 with the family receiving friends from 1:00 p.m. to 3:00 p.m. at Travis Funeral Chapel in La Plata, Missouri. There will be no other services.

Memorials in memory of John may be made to Sue O’Haver. They may be sent to or left at Travis Funeral Chapel, 125 S. Church St., La Plata, MO 63549.
