Elsie L. “Rusty” Kibble, age 95 of Columbia, Missouri, passed away Wednesday, January 26, 2022 at the Stone Bridge Villa Marie in Jefferson City, Missouri.

Born November 10, 1926 on the family farm near Barnsville, Missouri, the daughter of Leonard A. and Elnora E. (Skinner) Baker. On May 27, 1944 in Graneda, Mississippi, she was united in marriage to Robert Kyle Kibble who preceded her in death on January 21, 1990.

Also preceding her in death were her parents; one son, Rodney Kibble; one son-in-law, Steve Goodwin; three sisters, Dorothy Baker, Maxine Holt, and Leota Redmon; and three brothers, James, Delbert, and Hubert Baker.

Surviving are one daughter, Roberta “Bobbie” Goodwin of Columbia, Missouri; one sister, Eunice Kiser of Kirksville; three grandchildren, Justin Kibble, Rachael Kibble, and Leah Webber; six great grandchildren, Collin Sullivan, Tristin Kibble, Addison Webber, Hannah Webber, Gavin Kibble, and Kaesin Kibble; one nephew, Larry Baker; five nieces, Linda Grissom, Roxy Baker, Pamela Justice, Lexi Baker and Joy Hurshman; one special son, David Kibble; two special grandsons, Robert and Christopher Kibble; two special great grandchildren, James and Daniel Kibble; and many extended family and friends.

Elsie attended Moody Grade School and was a 1945 graduate of Atlanta High School. She attended the University of Pennsylvania and University of Missouri. She was a LPN at Barnes Hospital, an administrative assistant to the dean of the Kirksville College of Osteopathic Medicine, and Laughlin Pavilion retiring in 1989.

Elsie was the first president of the new Cahokia Illinois Elementary School; president of the credit union at Wills Eye Hospital and Research Center in Philadelphia, PA; past president of the American Legion Auxiliary Unit 20 of District 1 of Missouri; past president of First Baptist Church Sunday School Class of Kirksville, MO; past member of American Business Women’s Association in Kirksville; member of the Senior Songsters and Long Range Planning Committee of First Baptist Church in Kirksville; chairman of Banquet and Host Committee and directed the flower ministry; member of R.S.V.P.; volunteer grandma for elementary children; and was an avid reader. She was a member of the First Baptist Church and attended Hamilton Street Baptist Church in Kirksville.

Funeral services will be 2:00 p.m. Saturday, June 4, 2022 at Travis Funeral Chapel in La Plata, Missouri. Visitation will be one hour prior to the service. Inurnment will be in the La Plata Cemetery, La Plata, Missouri.

Memorials in memory of Elsie may be made to Adair County Public Library, Mexico-Audrain County Library, Daniel Boone Public Library in Columbia, MO, or the Central Missouri Food Bank in Mexico, MO. They may be sent to or left at Travis Funeral Chapel, 125 S. Church St., La Plata, MO 63549.
