Jesse "Caryle" Carter

September 3, 1920 - December 29, 2021

Mr. Jesse “Caryle” Carter, age 101, passed away on Wednesday, December 29, 2021 at his home in rural La Plata, Missouri.

Caryle was born on September 3, 1920 near Yarrow, the son of Jesse Carmon and Elizabeth Mattingly Carter.

Caryle was raised on a farm and as a young man, he served in the United States Army during World War II, stationed in Iceland as a mechanic. He later helped with cleanup in Paris, France prior to returning home to help manage the family’s farm now east of La Plata, with his father in poor health.

He married Phyllis Darlene Kautz of Sue City in Cheyenne, Wyoming on September 7, 1952. She survives in the home.

Together, they purchased a farm and raised three children, Angus cattle, corn and soybeans. Caryle was a member of the American Angus Association and his children showed livestock in 4-H at the Macon County Fair. Caryle was generous to his children and grandchildren and a successful farmer in the La Plata community. Neighbors admired Caryle’s work ethic and the immaculate condition of his farming operation.

Caryle was preceded in death by his parents and his sisters, Francis Lowe and Mary Cassady.

Survivors include one daughter, Cathy Baker and her late husband, Robert W. Baker of Atlanta, and two sons: Mike (Mary) Carter and Daryl (Wendy) Carter, both of La Plata. He is also survived by his grandchildren: Sharon (Duane) Pennington, Daron (Brandy) Baker, Aaron (Erica) Baker, Jason Carter, Evan Carter, Jesse Carter, and Megan and Daniel Ellyson. Caryle was also a great-grandfather to Christina, Ashlea, Aislynn, Owen, Paislea, Bella, Brody, Brynlee, Bright and Quentin. He was also survived by his sister, Marjorie Weber of Kirksville.
