Dr. James Furman, age 73 of La Plata, Missouri, passed away of respiratory failure Friday, January 1, 2021 at University Hospital in Columbia, Missouri.

Surviving are his wife of over 52 years, Becky; two children, Clay and Heather; and three granddaughters, Marina, Angela, and Emily.

Dr. Furman was a beloved husband and father and took great pride in serving northeastern Missouri as a chiropractor for 49 years; making his practice the longest continuously operated family-owned business in La Plata. He was a member of several community organizations over the years, including the Jaycees, the school board, and the La Plata Masonic Lodge.

Per his wishes, he will be cremated without ceremony. Those wishing to pay their respects are encouraged to make a donation to the La Plata Public Library in lieu of flowers or gifts.
