Duane Turner, age 83 of La Plata, Missouri, passed away Monday, November 9, 2020 at the La Plata Nursing Home.

Born July 1, 1937 in Kirksville, Missouri, the son of Harold and Viola (Linder) Turner. On October 3, 1959 in La Plata he was united in marriage to Peggy Angell who survives.

Also surviving are three children, Pam and Wayne Fry of McFall, Missouri, Dennis and Cathy Turner of Wichita, Kansas, and Matt and Andrea Turner of La Plata, Missouri; five grandchildren, Josh Turner, Lauren Carrillo, Baylea Turner, Tyler Turner, and Justin Fry; and thirteen great grandchildren.

His parents and one brother, Romaine Turner, preceded him in death.

Duane lived most of his life in the La Plata community. He was a 1955 graduate of La Plata High School and a 1961 graduate of Northeast Missouri State Teachers College. While farming most of his life, he also taught Industrial Arts and Drivers Education for nine years, and was a Farmers Mutual Insurance Agent for more than 20 years.

Duane also served on the La Plata School Board and the NEMO Fair Board where he was the coordinator of the construction of the new fair grounds. He was a member of the La Plata Lions Club and the Illinois Bend Community Church, and was a leader for the Illinois Bend 4-H Club for 20 years. He and Peggy enjoyed 35 years of square dancing.

Graveside services will be 2:00 p.m. Wednesday, November 11, 2020 at the La Plata Cemetery. Officiating will be Pastor Virgil Jones. There will be no visitation.
