Jean Poteet

Jean Poteet, age 79 of La Plata, Missouri, passed away Tuesday, April 30, 2019 at University Hospital in Columbia, Missouri.
Born December 26, 1939 in Rutledge, Missouri, the daughter of Wilson and Grace (Moxley) Graham. On January 1, 1958 in La Plata, Missouri, she was united in marriage to Ronald D. Poteet who preceded her in death on August 11, 2015. Also preceding her in death were her parents.
Surviving are one brother, James Graham of Poplar Bluff, Missouri; one sister, Duretta Newman and husband, Michael of Kirksville, Missouri; two nieces, Jennifer Treasure (Troy) of Kirksville, Missouri and Jessica Outen (Randy) of Lakenheath, England; two nephews, Jared Newman (Hilary) of Pella, Iowa and Jason Newman (Willow) of Kirksville, Missouri; and several great nieces and great nephews.
Jean lived most all of her life in La Plata where she served as mayor for a number of years. She had also been a member of the La Plata Volunteer Fire Department and served as an EMT for the Macon County Ambulance District for many years.
Graveside services will be 2:00 p.m. Thursday, May 9, 2019 in the East Addition of the La Plata Cemetery. Officiating will be Reverend Scott Beard.
