Paul D. Johnson

Paul D. Johnson, age 90, died on Wednesday, August 9, 2017 in Surprise Arizona. From his birth on a farm just west of La Plata, Missouri, to his death on Wednesday, he always felt fortunate to have his friends and family close. He was born to H.I. and June Johnson on May 20, 1927 and was one of five boys; two of his brothers preceded him in death, Robert Johnson and Marion “Pete” Johnson. He graduated from La Plata High School in May of 1945 and joined the Navy in 1946. Upon completing service he returned to Missouri and graduated from Northeast Missouri State Teachers College in May of 1951 with a focus in industrial arts. On February 11, 1956 he married the love of his life, Glenna M Baldwin, who proceeded him in death on October 28, 2012. They made their home in Kansas City Missouri and had four children, Paula, who proceeded him in death, Devona Slater, a resident of Prairie Village Kansas, David Johnson, a resident of Surprise Arizona and Lynette Peterson a resident of Waddell Arizona. After retirement, Paul and Glenna moved to Surprise Arizona in 2004. One of Paul’s favorite past times was playing pool and he extends a heart-filled good-bye to the members of the Sunflower Billiards Club. He was a member of Hillside Christian Church. Among the many left to honor and remember Paul are his two brothers, Jack Johnson and Allen Johnson, a sister-in law, Esta Broderick, his three children and their spouses, many nieces and nephews, five grandchildren and six great grandchildren. A grave-side service and burial will be at the La Plata Cemetery on Friday, August 18, 2017 at 1:00 p.m. The family will greet friends and relatives for a celebration of a life well lived from 4:30 to 7:00 pm on Saturday, August 19 in the Oak Room at the Leawood Community Center, 4800 Town Center Drive, Leawood Kansas.
