Bobby L. "Bob" Biggs

February 9, 1942 - October 20, 2011

Bobby Lee Biggs of La Plata, Missouri passed away unexpectedly on Thursday, October 20, 2011 at age 69. Born February 9, 1942 in Kirksville, Missouri he was the son of Harold M. and Virginia (Daniels) Biggs. On August 16, 1964 he was united in marriage with Lodena Dale Wood at the La Plata Presbyterian Church and they recently celebrated their 47th wedding anniversary.

Bob was a graduate of La Plata RII High School class of 1960 and earned his degree in Agriculture from Truman State University in 1965. Bob was past-president of the La Plata Jaycees, a member of the Masonic Lodge and the La Plata Christian Church. He ran Biggs Farms from 1964 until his retirement in 2009.

Bob leaves behind his wife Lodena of La Plata, Missouri; daughter Stephanie Harris and grandson Zane Harris; daughter Alicia Nentwig, son-in law Brian Nentwig and granddaughters Paige and Emma Nentwig all of Shawnee, Kansas; mother Virginia Biggs of La Plata; sister Carol Biggs and Richard Pemberton (and family) of Marshall, MO; sister-in-law Margaret Biggs (and family) of Mesa, AZ; mother-in-law Leola Wood Schneider of La Plata; brother-in law Linden (Buster) and Janet Wood (and family) of La Plata.

Bob was preceded in death by his daughter Mandy Biggs, his father Harold Biggs, his brother Gary Biggs and two infant siblings Farol and Larry Biggs.

Known to most as Bob, many of us had grown to know him as “Poppy.” He loved his grandchildren and always had a joke to tell. He enjoyed traveling in the truck with Lodena and visiting the farms. He always said “you can’t make more land.” This year was one of his best as he traveled with his family to the Dominican Republic and Mexico. Just recently he was so proud driving Lodena as the Grand Marshall of the La Plata Soybean Festival. Above all, he was proud of and loved his family.

Funeral services will be 11:00 a.m. Monday, October 24, 2011 at Travis Funeral Chapel, La Plata, Missouri.

Officiating will be the Reverend Stan East.

Burial will be in the La Plata Cemetery, La Plata, Missouri.

Visitation will be Sunday, October 23, 2011 with the family receiving friends from 6:00 - 8:00 p.m. at Travis Funeral Chapel, 125 S. Church St., La Plata, Missouri.
