John Franklin Sako, III
February 18, 1935 - August 28, 2025
John Franklin Sako III, age 90, of La Plata, Missouri, passed away Thursday, August 28, 2025, at his home.
Born February 18, 1935, in East Chicago, Indiana, the son of John and Georgette (Lewis) Sako. On January 26, 1957, he was united in marriage to the love of his life, Patricia Green who survives.
Also surviving are three daughters, Tara (Mark) Shanks of Highland, Indiana, Tori (Blake) Larson of La Plata, Missouri, and Trina Logan of Puyallup, Washington; one sister, Barbara Zabinski of Orland Park, Illinois; 29 grandchildren, Melissa (Mark), Jeffrey, Justin, Megan, Kyle (Daniela), Naomi (Taylor), Hannah, Kirk, Elizabeth, Sarah (Kobi), Ben, Elaine, Olivia, Rachel, Rebekah, Ann Marie, Robert, Christopher, Ashley, Brandon, Amber, Julie, John, Patricia, Jeffrey, Brandon, Jason, Collarre and Serina; and 4 great grandchildren, MacKenzie, Sophia, Everly and Adalyn.
His parents; two sons, John Sako IV and Joshua Sako; two daughters, Tracy Sako and Vicki Lynn Sako; and two brothers, Richard and Terry Sako preceded him in death.
John served in the United States Navy from 1952 to 1956. He served as an aircraft director during the Korean War aboard the aircraft carrier, USS Ticonderoga.
He thoroughly enjoyed piloting and skydiving with Patricia. John was a loving husband, father, and grandfather. He always made sure his family was well fed. John enjoyed cooking and taking the family out to dinner. He was proud of his grandchildren when they completed their basic military training, attending their graduation ceremonies.
After retirement, he relocated to Las Vegas, Nevada, where he lived for almost 25 years before coming to La Plata, Missouri.
John’s love for his family was evident on his face to the very end. His face would light up at the sight of any one of his children, grandchildren, and great grandchildren.
Funeral services followed with military honors will be 1:00 p.m. Monday, October 6, 2025, at the First Baptist Church in La Plata, Missouri. Services are under the direction of Travis Funeral Chapel.
