David Charley Gunnels, 71, of South Gifford, Missouri, passed away Tuesday, December 2, 2025, at his home.

Born May 10, 1954, in Kirksville, Missouri, the son of David Lavern and Juanita Lorene (Teter) Gunnels. On February 10, 1971, in La Plata, Missouri, he was united in marriage to the love of his life, Connie Perry who preceded him in death on January 29, 2025.

Also preceding him in death were his parents; son, Michael Gunnels; two grandchildren, Carissa and Blake; and one sister, Cheri O’Haver.

Surviving are two daughters, Christy (Rob) Bristow and Nikisha Couch, both of La Plata, Missouri; one daughter-in-law, Jennifer Gunnels of South Gifford, Missouri; two sisters, Tharen (Jorgen) Skjeveland of La Plata, Missouri and Novenda Hartsock of Kirksville, Missouri; six grandchildren, Derrick and Timerrick Gunnels, Dillon Huddleston, Lance, Brooklynn and Kady Couch; six great grandchildren, Aydin, Rue, Evander, and Eriatreya Gunnels, Treylea Couch, and Samuel Huddleston; and several nieces, nephews, and cousins.

David lived all of his life in the South Gifford community. He was employed for a number of years at Belt Fur and Wool in La Plata, Missouri, and later owned and operated Charley’s Corner in South Gifford. He enjoyed hunting and collecting antiques. David loved being on his farm, raising sheep, cattle, and beagles, and most of all spending time with his family.

Funeral services will be 12:00 p.m. Saturday, December 6, 2025, at the South Gifford Christian Church with a visitation one hour prior to the service. Burial will be in the Indian Hill Cemetery.
