Raymond Lee Carter

Raymond L. Carter, 84, of La Plata, Missouri, passed away Sunday, August 25, 2024, at Macon Health Care Center in Macon, Missouri.
Raymond was born January 13, 1940, in Monroe, Iowa, the son of Orval and Blanche (Kingery) Carter. Raymond was united in marriage on September 5, 1981, in Unionville, Missouri, to Mary McCaughey, who survives.
Raymond is also survived by five sons: Kevin Carter of La Plata, Missouri; Ray Carter of Overland Park, Kansas; John (Kathy) Carman of Adel, Iowa; Bill (Mary) Carman of Oskaloosa, Iowa; and David Carman of Montana: two daughters, Sheryl (Robin) Ferguson of La Plata, Missouri; and Donna (Chip) Watson of West Branch, Iowa; one sister, Linda Sandelin of West Des Moines, Iowa; seven grandchildren: Britney, Shaylee, Layla, Gabe, Matt, Brad, and Karen; and six great grandchildren: Ellie, Paige, Sarah, Grace, Asher, and Jaxon; and many nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his parents; four brothers, Lyle, Kenny, Dwight, and Dale Carter; and two sisters, Mable Knox and Mary Brobst.
Raymond served in the United States Air Force from 1959 to 1963. He was very outgoing and never met a stranger. He loved visiting with people, walking his granddaughters to and from grade school, and spending time with his family. Raymond was a lifelong Green Bay Packers fan and a Jimmie Johnson fan; he also enjoyed walking, classic country music, and going to auctions. Raymond had the privilege to fly with the Central Missouri Honor Flight to Washington, D.C., in 2015.
A graveside service, with military honors, will be held 1:00 p.m., Thursday, August 29, 2024, in the Missouri State Veterans Cemetery in Jacksonville, Missouri, with Pastor Scott McNay officiating.
