Robert Lee Johnson, age 85 of La Plata, Missouri, passed away Monday, December 2, 2024, at Northeast Regional Medical Center in Kirksville, Missouri.

Born August 20, 1939, in Kansas City, Kansas, the son of Lawrence and Verna (Ellis) Johnson. On April 16, 1961, in Kansas City, Missouri, he was united in marriage to Virginia Gray, and to this marriage five children were born. On August 26, 2012, in La Plata, Missouri he was united in marriage and survived by Beverly (Brackney) Billings.

Also surviving are four children, Cheri (Mitchell) Green of Raymore, Missouri, Michael (Deepa) Johnson of Overland Park, Kansas, Linda DeBolt of Orlando, Florida, and Penelope (Clay) Smith of Raymore, Missouri; seven grandchildren and ten great grandchildren.

Preceding him in death were his parents; wife, Virginia on September 6, 2009; and one daughter, Nancy Jo at the age of 15 months.

Robert was a graduate of Washington High School and Kansas City Kansas Community College. He was employed at TWA for 33 years at the overhaul base in Kansas City, Missouri where he was a mechanic, carpenter, and crew chief. Robert was a member of the Masonic Lodge AF & AM, the Ararat Shrine Temple, and La Plata Community Presbyterian Church where he served as Elder. He served on the La Plata City Council for 6 years. Robert also rode a motorcycle with the Gold Wings Motorcycle Shrine Unit all over the central United States.

Robert and Beverly enjoyed being snowbirds in Southwest Florida for many years. He enjoyed working in his woodworking shop making toys.

A Celebration of Life service will be 12:00 pm Thursday, December 5, 2024, at Travis Funeral Chapel in La Plata, Missouri. Masonic service will begin at 10:30 am with the family receiving friends from 11:00 am to 12:00 pm.

Burial will be 1:00 pm Friday, December 6, 2024, in Floral Hills Cemetery in Raytown, Missouri.

Memorials in memory of Robert may be made to La Plata Community Presbyterian Church. They may be sent to or left at Travis Funeral Chapel, 125 S. Church St., La Plata, MO 63549.
