Travis Funeral Chapel

Marietta C. Slaughter, age 91 of Macon, Missouri, passed away Wednesday, July 5, 2023 at Boone Hospital in Columbia, Missouri.

Born December 2, 1931 in Gifford, Missouri, the daughter of Clarence and Lena (Bailey) Lockett. On March 22, 1951 in Kirksville, Missouri, she was united in marriage to Dean Slaughter who preceded her in death on June 8, 2016.

Also preceding her in death were her parents; three grandchildren, Hannah Perry, Branden Slaughter, and Sebrina Frock; one brother, Herschell Lockett; and one son-in-law, Dale McVay.

Surviving are one son and daughter-in-law, Norven and Denise Slaughter of Brookfield, Missouri; two daughters, Gayle McVay of Macon, Missouri and Terri and Bill Wobken of Queen City, Missouri; 14 grandchildren and 24 great grandchildren.

Marietta lived most of her life in the Gifford community. She was a 1949 graduate of La Plata High School and was a member of the Gifford Christian Church. She enjoyed gardening, canning, helping on the farm, and spending time with her family.

Funeral services will be 2:00 p.m. Sunday, July 9, 2023 at Travis Funeral Chapel in La Plata, Missouri. Burial will be in Indian Hill Cemetery, north of Gifford, Missouri.

Visitation will be Sunday, July 9, 2023 with the family receiving friends from 1:00 p.m. to 2:00 p.m. at the funeral home.
