Leonard R. Brokaw

Leonard R. Brokaw, age 99 of La Plata, Missouri, passed away Saturday, June 11, 2022 at the La Plata Nursing Home in La Plata, Missouri.
Born February 4, 1923 on the family farm, east of La Plata, the son of Albert and Pauline (Harrison) Brokaw.
Surviving are his wife Rilletta of the home; three children, Junior Brokaw of La Plata, Joyce Crawford of La Plata, and Janice Brokaw of La Plata; one daughter-in-law, Sue Brokaw of La Plata; four step-children, Jeff Fredman, Debbie Albright, Donna Thompson, and Dana Morgan; one sister, Rachel Hoskins of Kirksville, Missouri; five grandchildren, Jeff (Amy) Crawford, Scott (Susan) Crawford, Matt (Denise) Brokaw, Tracy (Jay) Arends, and Carie Fouch; and thirteen great grandchildren, Brooke, Logan, Weston, Easton, Haydon, Jacob, Tierney, Seth, Ava, Will, Nathan, Joci, and Mattie.
He was preceded in death by his parents; wife, Maxine; one son, Jerald Brokaw; three brothers, Dale Brokaw, Oren Ray Brokaw, and Charles Henry Brokaw; one son-in-law, Steve Crawford; and one daughter-in-law, Ione Brokaw.
Leonard lived and worked most all of his life on the family farm east of La Plata. He served in the United States Army from 1944 to 1946 with time spent in Burma. He was a member of the La Plata United Methodist Church, La Plata American Legion, and AQHA for over 55 years. Leonard loved horses, roping, farming, his German Shepard dogs, Angus cows, and Minneapolis Moline tractors.
Funeral services will be 3:00 p.m. Friday, June 17, 2022 at Travis Funeral Chapel in La Plata, Missouri. Burial will be in the La Plata Cemetery. Visitation will be one hour prior to the funeral service starting at 2:00 p.m.
In lieu of flowers, the family request memorials are made to the La Plata American Legion. They may be sent to or left at Travis Funeral Chapel, 125 S. Church St., La Plata, MO 63549.
