Jerald Eugene Brokaw

Jerald Eugene Brokaw, age 69 of La Plata, Missouri, passed away Wednesday, February 20, 2019 at his home.
Born July 13, 1949 in Kirksville, Missouri, the son of Leonard and Maxine (Stiles) Brokaw. On June 3, 1998 in Macon, Missouri, he was united in marriage to Susan Wright who survives.
Also surviving are his father and step-mother, Leonard and Rilletta Brokaw of La Plata, Missouri; four step-children, James William Slagle and wife Shelly, Sherrie Lenox and husband Dwight, Robert Wayne Wright and wife Roxann, and Levy Ira Slagle and wife Melissa; one brother, Junior Brokaw and wife Ione of La Plata, Missouri, two sisters, Joyce Crawford and husband Steve of La Plata, Missouri, and Janice Brokaw of La Plata, Missouri; ten step-grandchildren, six step-great-grandchildren, and several nieces and nephews.
His mother, Maxine Brokaw, preceded him in death.
Jerald was a 1967 graduate of La Plata High School. He served in the United States Army as a helicopter pilot in Vietnam from 1969 thru 1970, and was awarded the Distinguished Flying Cross. Jerald lived and worked in law enforcement in Sterling, Colorado for many years before moving back to La Plata in 2012.
Jerald loved to collect and shoot guns. For many years he held the top honors in marksmanship at Fort Leonard Wood. He also enjoyed hunting and making knives. He was a member of the La Plata American Legion Post #282.
Memorial services will be 10:30 a.m. Monday, February 25, 2019 at Travis Funeral Chapel. Inurnment will be at a later date.
