Aletha M. Sulzberger
August 7, 1921 - February 2, 2018
Aletha Maie (Brust) Sulzberger, 96, formerly of La Plata MO., passed away February 2, 2018 at Tiger Place Independent Living in Columbia, MO. She was born August 7, 1921 to Francis "Frank" C. Brust, Sr. and Catherine (Stevenson) Brust in Odell, Illinois, the second of six children.
Aletha married Lester Sulzberger August 26, 1938; Lester passed in 2012 after 74 years of marriage. Also preceding her in death were her parents and five siblings, Jack (Joann) Brust, Donald (Dorothy) Brust, Margaret "Peg" (Bob) Myers, Francis "Junior" (Esther) Brust, and Catherine "Kay"(Junior) Hobart. Her daughter-in-law Charlotte Ann Sulzberger passed in August 2017.
Aletha is survived by sons Harry M. Sulzberger of Columbia, MO and Ronald L. Sulzberger of Freeman, MO; 3 grandchildren Leigh Ann Pool, Elizabeth Hollas, and Patrick Sulzberger; and seven great-grandchildren.
Aletha was a homemaker in Carrollton for twenty years and La Plata for fifty years. She moved to Tiger Place in Columbia in 2015. She was a long time member of the Methodist Church. Aletha and Lester were avid golfers during their retired years and she had four hole-in-ones.
A visitation will be held at Travis Funeral Chapel in La Plata, MO. Monday, February 5, 2018 from 5 - 7 pm. There will be a graveside service Wednesday, February 7, 2018 at 2 pm at Allen Township Cemetery in Ransom, Illinois.
In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the La Plata United Methodist Church or a charity of the donor's choice. They may left at or mailed to Travis Funeral Chapel, 125 S. Church St., La Plata, MO 63549.
