Larabel "Ann" Hertzler Bullock

Larabel “Ann” Hertzler Bullock, 84, of La Plata, Missouri passed away Friday, December 7, 2018 at Taylor House Hospice in Des Moines, Iowa.
Born May 8, 1934 in Elmer, Missouri, she was the daughter of Lawrence Hertzler and Marybelle Spencer Hertzler. On June 6, 1954 she was united in marriage to William Andrew Bullock. They were devoted to each other throughout their long marriage. Two children were born to their marriage, Larry and Jill.
Survivors include her daughter and son-in-law Jill and Mick Kent of Des Moines, Iowa; one daughter-in-law Debby Bullock of Jefferson City, Missouri; one sister and brother-in-law, Carolyn and Chuck Kahn of High Point, North Carolina; five granddaughters, Morgan Molden and husband Brett, Mallory Halverson and husband Brad, Allison Uhll and husband Joe, and Abigail and Grace Bullock; five great-grandchildren, Tabitha, Finley, Cecelia, Kent and Weston.
Preceding her in death was her beloved husband, Bill, on October 23, 2018, her son, Larry Bullock, and her parents.
She graduated from Atlanta High School in 1952. She also graduated from Truman State University with a degree in Art Education. She was a talented artist and was an art teacher in the La Plata School District her entire career. As a young woman, Ann competed in, and won, local beauty contests. In 1956, in Chicago, Illinois she was crowned International Shorthorn Lassie Queen. Ann was beautiful inside and out.
Ann and Bill made their home in La Plata. Over the years, Bill and Ann enjoyed their farmstead, gardening, square dancing, and were 60 year members of the La Plata Golf Course. Ann was active in the community, particularly in the area of historical preservation and was a charter member of Friends for La Plata Preservation, served on the Board of Trustees of the Gilbreath-McLorn Historical Home for more than 20 years, and helped obtain state funding for the La Plata depot renovation project. She contributed an original design for Soybean Festival t-shirts for many years, and was an active member of the La Plata Community Presbyterian Church. She sang in the choir for many years.
A funeral reception is scheduled at the Gilbreath-McLorn Historical Home in La Plata from 1-4 pm on Saturday, December 15, with a brief service at 3 pm. Memorials in honor of Ann Bullock may be made to the Gilbreath-McLorn to contribute to the effort to install air conditioning in this local treasure.
