Richard Lee Crawford

Richard Lee Crawford, 83, of La Plata, Missouri, passed away Sunday, August 27, 2017 at Macon Health Care Center in Macon, Missouri. The son of John L. and Dortha Virginia (Huston) Crawford, Richard was born April 21, 1934 in La Plata.
He was preceded in death by his parents; two sisters, Patsy Morrow and Jeannine Nichols; three brothers-in-law, Phillip Sewell, Bill Morrow, and Jim Nichols; one niece, Joy Brace; and one great nephew, Andrew Huston.
Richard is survived by his brother, Reverend Roger Crawford and wife Linda of Union, Iowa; one sister, Clara Lou Sewell of Phoenix, Arizona; six nephews, Michael Crawford, Duke Crawford, Jamie Nichols, Terry Sewell, Timothy Sewell, and Ricky Morrow; and four nieces, Debbie Hanson, Rhonda Nichols, Cindy Sewell, and Tammy Morrow.
Richard lived most of his life near La Plata. He served eight years in the United States Navy and was a 100% disabled service connected Veteran. Richard was a 50+ year member of the La Plata American Legion Post #282 and a member numerous other veteran service organizations. He was a member of the Community Presbyterian Church in La Plata. Richard will be remembered for his great sense of humor and his love of telling stories.
Funeral services will be held 2:00 p.m. Saturday, September 2, 2017 at the Community Presbyterian Church in La Plata, with Reverend Roger Crawford presiding. Burial with full military honors will immediately follow the services in the La Plata Cemetery.
A public visitation will be held with the family receiving friends from 1:00 p.m. until service time at the Community Presbyterian Church.
