Marie Naughton Collum

Mary Marie Naughton Collum, age 88, formerly of La Plata, Missouri, passed away Sunday, December 10, 2017 at the Eastern Star Masonic Home in Boone, Iowa.
Born December 28, 1928 in Sullivan County, Missouri, the daughter of Tom and Grace (Stanforth) Burdett. On May 6, 1951 in Callao, Missouri she was united in marriage to James E. Naughton who preceded her in death on September 28, 1999. On December 2, 2000 in Macon, Missouri she married John J. Collum who preceded her in death on November 1, 2009.
Also preceding her in death were her parents, foster parents, Walter and Thelma Jo Christy, one son, Bruce Naughton, and two brothers, Clarence Burdett and Nelson Rhinehart.
Surviving is one son, Kent and Teresa Naughton of Ames, Iowa; two step-sons, Reverend David Collum and wife Beth of Bolivar, Missouri and Dr. Steven Collum and wife Dana of Springfield, Missouri; one daughter-in-law, Kathi Gilleland of Shawnee, Kansas; grandchildren; five grandchildren, Audrey Naughton, John Collum, Joe Collum, Lizzie Collum, and Andrew Collum; and several nieces, nephews, and cousins.
Marie lived most all of her life in Macon County, Missouri. At age 14 she went to live with foster parents, Walter and Thelma Jo Christy in Callao, Missouri. She was a 1948 graduate of Callao High School. She owned and operated the Home Beauty Shop in La Plata for many years. Marie was a member of the Community Presbyterian Church, serving as an Elder for many years, American Legion Auxiliary, and past member of the Rebecca Lodge, all of La Plata, Missouri.
Funeral services will be 11:00 a.m. Saturday, December 16, 2017 at the Community Presbyterian Church in La Plata, Missouri. Officiating will be Reverend Scott Grotewold and Reverend David Collum. Burial will be in the La Plata Cemetery.
Visitation will be Friday, December 15, 2017 with the family receiving friends from 5:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m. at the Travis Funeral Chapel in La Plata, Missouri.
Memorials in memory of Marie Naughton Collum may be made to the Community Presbyterian Church or the La Plata American Legion. They may be sent to or left at Travis Funeral Chapel, 125 S. Church St., La Plata, Missouri 63549.

Marie Collum was our friend in Boone. She was a star at Eastern Star Retirement Home. If the place was a high school, she would be elected homecoming queen. Her grateful heart and constant joy will not be forgotten.
