Dean Slaughter
January 21, 1928 - June 8, 2016
Dean Slaughter, age 88 of New Boston, Missouri, passed away Wednesday, June 8, 2016 at Macon Health Care Center in Macon, Missouri.
Born January 21, 1928 in Adair County, Missouri, he was the son of Roxy Earl and Carrie Binda (Williams) Slaughter. On March 22, 1951 in Kirksville, Missouri, he was united in marriage to Marietta C. Lockett who survives.
Also surviving is one son, Norven Slaughter and wife Denise of Brookfield, Missouri; two daughters, Gayle McVay and husband Dale of Macon, Missouri and Terri Wobken and husband Bill of Queen City, Missouri; and 14 grandchildren and 18 great grandchildren.
His parents, two brothers, Roxy Dolis and Olan Laverne Slaughter, and two grandchildren Hannah Catherine Perry and Branden Scott Slaughter preceded him in death.
Dean lived most all of his life in the Gifford community. He was a 1945 graduate of Gifford High School and later served in the United States Army during the Korean War. He was a member of the Gifford Christian Church where he served as a Deacon and Elder. Dean loved working on his farm and spending time with his family.
Funeral services will be 1:30 p.m. Saturday, June 11, 2016 at Travis Funeral Chapel in La Plata, Missouri. Burial with Military Honors will be in the Indian Hill Cemetery north of Gifford, Missouri.
Visitation will be Friday, June 10, 2016 with the family receiving friends from 6:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. at the Travis Funeral Chapel.
