Mary Dean Flickinger

Mary Dean Flickinger, age 89 of La Plata, Missouri, passed away Thursday, June 16, 2016 at her home.
Born December 15, 1926 in Eversonville, Missouri, she was the daughter of Dean L. and Claudie Fay (Clarkson) Sallee. On September 23, 1951 in Eversonville, Missouri, she was united in marriage to Wilber Clem Flickinger, who survives.
Also surviving are two sons and daughters-in-law, Wilber Dean and Paulette Flickinger of Mendon, Missouri and David and Sheila Flickinger of Kirksville, Missouri; four daughters, Debra Flickinger and Bob Houlihan of Elmhurst, Illinois, Dena True and husband Les of Kirksville, Denise Crutchfield and husband Art of Huntsville, Missouri, and Donna Brown and Jeff Wyatt of Bevier, Missouri; one brother, Lonnie Sallee and wife Carole of Kearney, Missouri; two sisters, Shirley Mays of Independence, Missouri and Beverly Edmundson of Galt, Missouri; nine grandchildren, Nicole Beddoe and husband Brandon, Nathan Flickinger and wife Mindy, Chayton True, Seth and Jace Brown, Gage Flickinger, Pam Wheeler, Brandy Adams, and J.R. and Lindsey Adams; and six great grandchildren, Oakley Flickinger and Michael, Kaden, Ava, Dena Marie, and Jasmine Adams.
Her parents, one son-in-law, Kurt Brown, and one grandson, Zack Brown preceded her in death.
Mary was a 1944 graduate of Meadville High School. Her childhood days were spent working in the family owned general store in Hecla, Missouri, which was memorialized by artist L.A. Boomer as “the biggest little country store in the world.” She also played baseball until a ball broke her jaw while pitching.
Mary lived most of her adult life in La Plata where she was her children and grandchildren’s number one sports fan, following them all over Missouri and beyond. She enjoyed traveling and selling Avon. Mary was a member of the Eversonville Baptist Church.
Funeral services will be 1:00 p.m. Monday, June 20, 2016 at Travis Funeral Chapel in La Plata, Missouri. Burial will be in Missouri State Veterans Cemetery in Jacksonville, Missouri.
Visitation will be Sunday, June 19, 2016 with the family receiving friends from 5:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. at Travis Funeral Chapel.
