Ruth C. Lawson
April 25, 1919 - October 4, 2016
Ruth C. Lawson, age 97 formerly of La Plata, Missouri, passed away Tuesday, October 4, 2016 at Brandon Woods at Alvamar in Lawrence, Kansas.
Born April 25, 1919 in Wyaconda, Missouri, the daughter of William and Lola (Bane) Hartell. On May 25, 1941 in Wyaconda, Missouri, she was united in marriage to Virgil D. Lawson who preceded her in death on June 30, 1996.
Also preceding her in death were her parents; step-father, G. Edward Dieterich; one daughter, Carol Dutton; one grandson, Michael Dutton; one sister, Raveigh Moore; a half-sister, Lavonne Singley; two step-brothers, Emil and Riley Dieterich; and one step-sister, Ruth Riebel.
Surviving is one daughter and son-in-law, Donna and Steve Hicks of Lawrence, Kansas; five grandchildren, Todd Dutton, Dr. Gretchen Pai, Robin Vandenbos, Nathan Hicks, and Sarah Kincheloe; and fifteen great grandchildren.
Ruth was a 1937 graduate of Wyaconda High School and received an Elementary Teaching Certificate from Kirksville State Teachers College in 1939. She taught two years in a one-room schoolhouse in northeast Missouri.
Most of her adult life was spent in La Plata. She was a Para in special education in the La Plata Schools for a number of years. Ruth was a member of Atalpal, La Plata American Legion Auxiliary and the La Plata United Methodist Church.
Graveside services will be 11:00 a.m. Saturday, October 8, 2016 at the La Plata Cemetery in La Plata, Missouri. Officiating will be Pastor Lorri Landon.
There will be no visitation.
