Lewis Gene Wilson

Lewis Gene Wilson, age 81 of La Plata, Missouri, passed away Sunday, August 30, 2015 at Boone Hospital in Columbia, Missouri.
Born August 24, 1934 in La Plata, Missouri, he was the son of Babe and Mary M. (Newkirk) Wilson. On September 22, 1956 in La Plata, Missouri he married Betty Rood who survives.
Also surviving is one brother, Charles B. Wilson of La Plata, Missouri; one brother-in-law, Cecil Overstreet of Kirksville, Missouri; one sister-in-law, Ethel Saulsbury of Lancaster, Missouri; and several nieces and nephews.
His parents and two sisters, Roma Rodriquez and Glenna Daniels preceded him in death.
Lewis was a 1953 graduate of La Plata High School. He served in the United States Army. He had held many jobs over the years, including a motor grader operator for the Special Road District and City of La Plata; and truck driver for Alton Rhoades, M.F.A. Exchange in Kirksville, and Bangert Trucking of La Plata. Lewis was a member of the La Plata Community Presbyterian Church, a fifty-year member of the Loyal Order of the Moose in Kirksville, and the La Plata Saddle Club. Lewis was an avid horseman.
Funeral services will be held 10:00 a.m. Wednesday, September 2, 2015 at Travis Funeral Chapel in La Plata, Missouri. Officiating will be Gene Wood. Inurnment will follow at the Missouri Veterans Cemetery in Jacksonville, Missouri.
There will be no visitation.
