Billy Joe Summers, age 61 formerly of La Plata, Missouri, passed away Saturday, July 4, 2015 at Ashland Health Care in Ashland, Missouri.

Born February 4, 1954 in Kirksville, Missouri, he was the son of William B. and Opal (Watson) Summers.

Surviving are two daughters, Carolyn and Amanda Summers, both of Columbia, Missouri; one brother and sister-in-law, Richard and Marcella Summers of Sedalia, Missouri; and one niece and two nephews.

His parents and one sister, Rita K. Summers preceded him in death.

Billy lived most of his life in the Princeton and Mercer area before moving to La Plata in 1991. He was a graduate of Princeton High School. He was an independent truck driver and later was employed with Novinger Farms. Billy was a member of the La Plata Baptist Church. He enjoyed the outdoors and spending time with his family.

Funeral services will be 10:00 a.m. Saturday, July 11, 2015 at the La Plata Baptist Church. Burial will be in the Early Cemetery in Mercer, Missouri with graveside services starting at 2:30 p.m.

Visitation will be Friday, July 10, 2015 with family receiving friends from 6:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. at Travis Funeral Chapel in La Plata, Missouri.
