Herbert H. Gilliland

Herbert H. Gilliland, age 85 of La Plata, Missouri, passed away Tuesday, June 2, 2015 at the La Plata Nursing Home.
Born December 12, 1929 in La Plata, Missouri, he was the son of George H. and Rosa Belle (Denton) Gilliland. On June 5, 1965 in La Plata he married Mary Ruth Buck who preceded him in death on August 18, 2012.
Also preceding him in death were his parents, six brothers, and four sisters.
Surviving are two brothers-in-law, George Buck and wife Martha of Mason City, Illinois and Larry Buck and wife Thelma of South Wilmington, Illinois; several nieces and nephews, great nieces and nephews, great-great nieces and nephews; and two very special friends, Carolyn and Amanda Summers.
Herbert lived most all of his life in La Plata. He served in the United States Army during the Korean War where he was awarded the Purple Heart Medal. Herbert was a member of the First Baptist Church of La Plata, Missouri.
Funeral services will be 11:00 a.m. Thursday, June 4, 2015 at the First Baptist Church in La Plata. Officiating will be Reverend Matt Tanner. Organist will be Deanna Clevenger. Musical selections will be “Amazing Grace” and “In The Garden”.
Visitation will be one hour prior to the service at the church starting at 10:00 a.m.
