Wilma Joan Gilliland

Wilma Joan Gilliland, age 89 of La Plata, Missouri, passed away Tuesday, April 22, 2014 at the La Plata Nursing Home in La Plata, Missouri.
Born February 20, 1925 in Kirksville, Missouri, she was the daughter of Emitt and Helen (Marquith) Roberts. On July 6, 1941 in La Plata, Missouri, she married Cleo Von (Snow) Gilliland who preceded her in death on February 19, 1985.
Also preceding her in death were her parents; one daughter, Helen Elizabeth Shaw; one sister, Twila Thompson; one brother, Gordon Lane Roberts; and one grandson, Audie Eugene Brown.
Surviving is one brother, Emitt Ray Roberts of McHenry, Illinois; one sister, Arlis L. Nylen of Hesperia, California; one grandson, Leslie Von Shaw; three great grandchildren, Elizabeth Michelle Shaw, Dalton and Shawn Gerst; and several nieces, nephews, and cousins.
Joan was a graduate of New London High School in New London, Iowa, and received her nursing degree from the University of Iowa. She was employed at the Mental Health Institute in Mount Pleasant, Iowa as a Registered Nurse until her retirement. Joan was a member of the La Plata Christian Church. She enjoyed playing cards, working at the church, and loved spending time with her family.
Graveside services will be 3:00 p.m. Saturday, April 26, 2014 in the La Plata Cemetery, La Plata, Missouri. Officiating will be Reverend Scott McNay.
Services are under the direction of Travis Funeral Chapel, La Plata, Missouri.
