Roy Dean Magruder, age 53 of La Plata, Missouri, passed away Tuesday, August 6, 2013 at his home.

Born January 19, 1960 in Kirksville, Missouri, he was the son of Doward Dwayne and Dorthy Jean (Gragg) Magruder who precedes him in death.

Also preceding him in death was one brother, Alan Hale Pedlar.

Surviving is his special friend, Julie Dunseith of Columbia, Missouri; one daughter, Sarah Beth Berry of Kirksville, Missouri; one step-daughter, Jo Sullivan of Kirksville, Missouri; one brother, Todd Magruder of La Plata, Missouri; two sisters, Barber Rash of Kirksville, Missouri and Cristel Bruce and husband Joey of Higbee, Missouri; four grandchildren, one niece and one nephew.

Roy Dean was a 1978 graduate of La Plata High School. He served in the United States Air Force and later in the Army National Guard. He was a member of the La Plata Fire Department for more than 20 years. Roy Dean was a member of the Community Presbyterian Church in La Plata. He enjoyed fishing, playing cards, and spending time with friends and family.

A memorial service, under the direction of Travis Funeral Chapel, will be 1:00 p.m. Saturday, August 10, 2013 at the Community Presbyterian Church in La Plata, Missouri. Interment with military honors will be in the La Plata Cemetery.

It was his wish to be cremated and to have no visitation.
