Robert E. Smithson

Robert E. Smithson, age 94 of La Plata, Missouri, passed away Monday, May 20, 2013 at Samaritan Hospital in Macon, Missouri.
Born September 30, 1918 near Donaldson, Iowa, he was the son of Daniel and Katherine (Koller) Smithson. On April 16, 1949 in Atlanta, Missouri he married Theda J. Farmer who survives.
Also surviving are two sons and daughters-in-law, Doug and Paula Smithson of Mankato, Minnesota and Scott and Jeani Smithson of La Plata, Missouri; one daughter and son-in-law, Susan and Richard Sears of Atlanta, Missouri; eight grandchildren, two step-grandchildren, seven great grandchildren, and three step-great grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his parents; three brothers, Wilmer, Walliss, and Gilbert Smithson; and one sister, Gladys Marsh.
Bob was a 1937 graduate of Atlanta High School. He served in the United States Army Air Corp during W.W. II. Bob farmed south of La Plata most all of his life. He was a member of the Masonic Lodge, American Legion, and the Community Presbyterian Church, all of La Plata, Missouri.
Funeral services will be 11:00 a.m. Thursday, May 23, 2013 at the Community Presbyterian Church. Burial will follow with full military honors in the La Plata Cemetery.
Visitation will be one hour prior to the funeral starting at 10:00 a.m. Thursday, May 23, 2013 at the church, under the direction of Travis Funeral Chapel.
