Peggy Thomas

Peggy Jean Thomas, age 77, of La Plata, MO, passed away at home on Friday, October 18, 2013, while surrounded by her family.
She was born on June 9, 1936, to Robert and Eva (Billups) Pippin. She is preceded in death by her parents, brother, Jimmy, sister, Judy Brown, and grandson PFC Adam Thomas.
On April 4, 1953, Peggy was united in marriage to Jay Walker, who preceded her in death in 1965. To this union, four children were born: Linda Moore (Ron) of La Plata, Carol Ward (Raymond) of High Point, NC, Jeffrey Thomas (Cindy) of Purdin, MO, and Tracey East (Kevin) of La Plata. On June 30, 1967, Peggy married Jerry Thomas and to this union two daughters were born: Lori Smith (Robert) and Tabitha Sawyer (Jeremy) both of La Plata.
Also surviving are three brothers Virgil Pippin (Colleen) of Elmer, Glen Pippin (Sherry), and Loren Pippin (Patsy) both of La Plata; three sisters Stella Tuggle, Verna Buck, and Cora Voyles (Larry) all of La Plata; four brothers-in-law Johnny Edmonds of Silvis, IL, Patrick Thomas (Yvonne) of Kiln, MS, David Thomas (Katy) of Knoxville, IA, and Ronnie Brown of Linwood, KS; and two sisters-in-law Donna Zurcher of Kirksville, MO, and Linda Walker of Monmouth, IL.
Peggy was raised in the Cardy area and attended school in Cardy and La Plata. She was a proud Wal-Mart employee for 25 years. She also was a past employee at La Plata Nursing Home, McGraw-Edison, and Hollister, Inc. Peggy was a member of the La Plata Christian Church, the Reynolds-Martin Auxiliary La Plata Post 282, Atalpal, and The Baring Club. She was a past member of the La Plata Fire Department, a First Responder, and an EMT with the Macon County Ambulance.
Peggy enjoyed sewing, cooking, bowling, dancing, and camping. She also loved watching her grandchildren and great-children participate in La Plata Bulldog sports and activities. She is survived by 19 grandchildren, 19 great-grandchildren, one great-great granddaughter, and several nieces and nephews.
Visitation will be Wednesday, October 23, 2013 from 6-9 p.m. at Travis Funeral Chapel in La Plata. Funeral services will be 1:30 p.m., October 24, 2013 p.m. at the La Plata Christian Church with the Rev. Carl Helm officiating. Pallbearers will be her grandsons. Burial with honors by the Missouri EMS Funeral Team will be held at the Missouri Veterans Cemetery in Jacksonville, MO.
In lieu of flowers, it was Peggy's wishes that memorials be made to the La Plata Library or La Plata Parks and Rec. They may be mailed to or left at Travis Funeral Chapel, 125 S.
