Wilsey Gene Grear, age 81 of LaPlata, Missouri went to meet the Lord peacefully during an afternoon nap just as he had always prayed he would go HOME on September 28, 2011.

Gene was born September 5, 1930 in Brashear, MO. He was the son of Wilsey Leo and Hazel [Mercer] Grear. He was united in marriage to Lenora Belle Sacre on January 21, 1951.

He is survived by his wife, Lenora, his daughter Christina Le Bohnet of Ankeny, IA, his sister Shirley Ann Matticks and husband Merl of LaPlata , his sister-in-law Ruth Schladt and husband Fred of Gulf Breeze, FL, grandsons Seth Bohnet and Adam Bohnet and wife Debi both of Las Vegas, NV, Granddaughters Jessica Wardyn and husband Jamz of Ankeny, IA and Angela Belle Costello and husband Russ of Fulton, SD, Great-grandchildren Brett Wilsey Costello, Jordan Bohnet, Kennade Wardyn, Sawyer Belle Wardyn, and Addison Lynn Bohnet.

He is preceded in death by his parents, his son Wilsey Gene Grear, Jr, his brother Ronald B. Grear and his wife Jeanine Grear, and son-in-law John Bohnet.

Gene graduated from LaPlata High School in 1948 and was involved in Football, Basketball, and Baseball. He worked at Bradford Bowling Alley and the Green Theatre, was an evening Mail Hustler for the Depot and Post Office, and a lineman for the LaPlata Telephone Company, and also worked on the signal gangs for the Santa Fe Railroad. His adult careers began as an Assistant Manager for his Uncle Walt and followed the path of a Field Engineer in the states of Iowa, South Dakota, and North Dakota until his retirement in 1994 and establishing residency once again in LaPlata.

Gene taught Sunday School, was a youth leader, a licensed lay minister and was always active in any church where they lived throughout the Midwestern states. He is a member of the LaPlata First Baptist Church and also The Consistory, Landmark Lodge and was a Shriner, is the current Treasurer of F.L.P.P. and a former LaPlata City Alderman plus a Lifetime member of AWWA and WPCF which awarded him the coveted George Warren Fuller Award.

Funeral Services will be 11:00 a.m. Monday, October 3, 2011 at the La Plata Baptist Church with visitation one hour prior to the service.

Memorials can be directed to the First Baptist Church or the F.L.P.P.
