Barry Wayne Baker, age 61 of La Plata, Missouri, passed away Monday, June 27, 2011 at the La Plata Nursing Home.
Born June 5, 1950 in Kirksville, Missouri, he was the son of Harold D. and Betty M. (Patton) Baker. On March 14, 1981 in Kirksville, Missouri, he married Donna (Bahr-Miranda) who survives.
Also surviving is his mother, Betty Baker of Kirksville, Missouri; one daughter, Gwen Gashweiler of Novinger, Missouri; four sons, Garrett and Garth both of the state of Illinois, Dominic Miranda of Tokyo, Japan and Dr. Dion Miranda of St. Peters, Missouri; two brothers and sisters-in-law, Terry and Shirley Baker of Kirksville, Missouri and Larry and Evonne Baker of Kirksville, Missouri; one sister, Tami Gerrity and Carol of Elizabethtown, Kentucky; and many grandchildren.
His father Harold D. Baker preceded him in death.
Barry was a 1969 graduate of Kirksville High School and later graduated from Graceland University with a B.S. in Addiction Studies. He was employed with Norfolk & Southern Railroad for 18 years and later became a drug and alcohol abuse counselor, which was his true passion. Barry enjoyed hunting and the outdoors. He was a member of The Crossing in Kirksville, Missouri.
Funeral services will be 2:00 p.m. Friday, July 1, 2011 at Travis Funeral Chapel in La Plata, Missouri.
Burial will be in Gibbs Union Cemetery at Gibbs, Missouri.
Visitation will be Friday, July 1, 2011 with the family receiving friends from 12:00 p.m. to 2:00 p.m. at Travis Funeral Chapel.
