Bert Lyle Porter

Bert Lyle Porter, 84, Lee’s Summit, died April 20, 2011 at Shawnee Mission Hospital.

He was born in Kirksville, Missouri to Cary and Jewell (Lethco) Porter on February 10, 1927.

Bert was the sixth of seven children. He graduated from Kirksvile High School in 1946 and attended Truman University. In July 1950, he was married to Mary M Moncrief. After serving in the Korean War, he attended Central Technical Institute (DeVry) graduating with an engineering degree. He worked as an electronic engineer for Bendix and Western Electric (AT&T) retiring in 1986.

Hobbies included playing and teaching chess, growing hybrid roses and attending his grandchildren’s many activities.

He is survived by his wife Mary; daughter Brenda Cook (Christopher) Lee’s Summit; son Michael Porter (Julie)
Kansas City; his grandchildren, Nicole Potter (Nathaniel) Grain Valley; Nathan Smith Lee’s Summit; Mandra McCombs (Matthew) Smithville; Zachary Werner (Sara) Gladstone; Casey Werner, Kansas City; and his great-grandchildren Logan and Layton McCombs. He is also survived by one sister Betty Huffman, Richmond and Fred Porter, CA; several nieces and nephews.

He was a member of First Baptist Church Raytown.

Visitation will be at Langsford Funeral Home from 5:30 to 7:30 pm, Friday, April 22.

Visitation will be held at Travis Funeral Chapel in LaPlata at 1:00 pm, Saturday, April 23, followed by Graveside Service at 2:00 in La Plata Cemetary.
