Donald Leroy Bissey

Donald Leroy Bissey, age 86 of Kirksville, Missouri, passed away Thursday, June 24, 2010 at the LaPlata Nursing Home in LaPlata, Missouri.
Born March 25, 1924 near Cherry Box, Missouri, he was the son of George and Hannah (Brubaker) Bissey. On June 10, 1945 in Florence, Colorado he married Lucile G. Smith who survives.
Also surviving are three sons and daughters-in-law, Kenneth and Debbie Bissey of Labadie, Missouri, Melvin and Nancy Bissey of Kirksville, Missouri, and Ron and Pam Bissey of Moberly, Missouri; two daughters, Marilyn Green and husband John of LaPlata, Missouri, and Brenda Bissey of Kirksville, Missouri; one daughter-in-law, Dorothy Powell of Tonganoxie, Kansas; nine grandchildren, Greg Bissey, Jennifer Puntenney, Josh Bissey, Erin Graham, Clint and Vince Bissey, Heath Green, Amanda Springer, and Nicole Bissey; and eleven great grandchildren.
Preceding him in death were his parents; one son, Wayne Bissey; one great granddaughter, Ella Puntenney; two brothers, Kenneth and John Bissey; and two sisters, Margaret and Sadie Bissey.
Donald was a graduate of Leonard High School. Soon after marriage he moved to a farm in the Cherry Box community. In 1952 he moved to LaPlata where he worked for JT Herron Plumbing Company, and in 1954 began his thirty years of service with the Sante Fe Railroad. Donald moved to Kirksville in 2005. He was a faithful member of the First Church of God in Kirksville, serving as treasurer for many years. He was actively involved in volunteer work with RSVP, Blood Mobile, the Community Food Depot, and Friends For LaPlata Preservation.
Funeral services will be 4:00 p.m. Saturday, June 26, 2010 at the Travis Funeral Chapel in LaPlata, Missouri. Officiating will be Pastor Jeff Overturf. Music will be provided by organist Carolyn Turner and soloist John Gorham. Musical selections will be “Beulah Land” and “Sheltered In The Arms Of God”.
Burial will be in the LaPlata Cemetery, LaPlata, Missouri. Pallbearers will be his grandsons.
Visitation will be Saturday, June 26, 2010 with the family receiving friends from 2:00 p.m. to 4:00 p.m. at the Travis Funeral Chapel.
