Donald Eugene Thompson

Donald E. Thompson, age 77 of LaPlata, Missouri, passed away Thursday, April 29, 2010 at the LaPlata Nursing Home in LaPlata, Missouri.

Born September 30, 1932 in Gibbs, Missouri, he was the son of Emery L. and Ruth L. (Keller) Thompson. On December 6, 1952 in LaPlata, Missouri he married Twila B. Roberts who survives.

Also surviving are two sons and daughters-in-law, Bill and Donna Thompson of Columbia, Missouri and Bob and Paulette Thompson of Kirksville, Missouri; three daughters, Patty Schillie of Lee’s Summit, Missouri, Peggy Weir and her husband Richard of Independence, Missouri, and Pam Boyer and her husband Jeff of House Springs, Missouri; ten grandchildren, Andrea Hatfield, Aaron Thompson, Matthew and Sarah Schillie, Barron and Ross Weir, Jessica Thompson, Megan Jackman, Drew and Brooke Boyer; and two great grandchildren, Haylee and Zoey Thompson.

He was preceded in death by his parents.

Don was a 1950 graduate of LaPlata High School. He served in the United States Army from 1953 thru 1954. Don farmed most all of his life in Adair County. He was a member of the Community Presbyterian Church in LaPlata, Missouri.

Funeral services will be 2:00 p.m. Sunday, May 2, 2010 at the Travis Funeral Chapel in LaPlata, Missouri. Officiating will be the Reverend John Becker.

Burial with Military Honors will be in the LaPlata Cemetery in LaPlata, Missouri. Pallbearers will be Matthew Schillie, Barron Weir, Ross Weir, Drew Boyer, Jason Hatfield and Josh Jackman. Honorary pallbearers will be Aaron Thompson, Bob Jackson, Charlie Davison, John Murr, Tom Burton and Bob Ferry.

Visitation will be Saturday, May 1, 2010 with the family receiving friends from 6:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. at the Travis Funeral Chapel.
