Glen William Stephenson, age 93 of La Plata, Missouri, passed away Sunday, December 14, 2014 at Northeast Regional Medical Center in Kirksville, Missouri.

Born March 8, 1921 near Loeffler, Missouri, he was the son of John William LeRoy and Laura Ethel (Cook) Stephenson. On January 17, 1942 in Kirksville, Missouri he married Fern Holland who preceded him in death on July 19, 1943. On May 11, 1947 in Kirksville, Missouri he married Olive Lucille Laird who preceded him in death on March 22, 1991.

Also preceding him in death were his parents and three infant siblings.

Surviving are one son and daughter-in-law, Bill and Kathy Stephenson of Kirksville, Missouri; one daughter and son-in-law, Peggy and Ron Foster of La Plata, Missouri; one grandson, Dustin Stephenson and wife Rolena; and one great grandson, Dane William Stephenson.

Glen served in the United States Army during W.W. II. He lived 66 years on his farm west of La Plata.

Glen was a life-long hunter who especially enjoyed quail, pheasant and turkey hunting. He had both his knees replaced in the Fall, 1992, but got his turkey that year anyway. He loved the dogs that populated his life; pointers, setters, German Shepherds, black labs, and two special Brittany Spaniels.

Although he stopped taking cross-country motorcycle trips after losing his wife in 1991, he was often seen on his Harley enjoying the scenery on secondary roads in Northeast Missouri. He was still riding at age 89.

Glen was a strong, independent man who believed most problems could be solved with time, ingenuity, brute strength, and Stephenson stubbornness. Long hours and hard labor were his hallmarks as family members can verify. Just ask them about stacking small round bales, building fence, or cutting the winter’s supply of wood during the hottest week of the year.

Funeral services will be 11:00 a.m. Thursday, December 18, 2014 at Travis-Noe Funeral Home in Kirksville, Missouri. Burial with military honors will be in the Shaver Cemetery in southern Adair County.

Visitation will be Thursday with the family receiving friends from 10:00 a.m. to 11:00 a.m. at the Travis-Noe Funeral Home.
