Alice Dorene McNew

Alice Dorene McNew, age 85 of La Plata, Missouri, passed away Wednesday, September 4, 2013 at the La Plata Nursing Home in La Plata, Missouri.
Born January 17, 1928 in Atlanta, Missouri, she was the daughter of Aaron Daniel and Stella Matilda (Harrison) Smoot. On April 6, 1947 in La Plata she married Clifford R. McNew who preceded her in death on September 28, 2007.
Also preceding her in death were her parents, one brother, two half sisters, and four half brothers.
Surviving are three children, Becky Walters and husband Ronald of St. Louis, Missouri, Jim McNew and wife Kathy of Platte City, Missouri, and Linda Martin of Panama City, Florida; a half brother, Herschel Smoot of Winston, Missouri; one brother-in-law, William McNew of Big Lake, Missouri; one aunt, Pauline Schiller of Kissimmee, Florida; eight grandchildren and thirteen great grandchildren.
Dorene was raised in La Plata by Omar and Miranda Roebuck. She was a 1946 graduate of La Plata High School. While living in Macon and Adair Counties, she worked at Grim Smith Hospital, Hollister’s, and many years farming with her husband and family, being voted Adair County Farm Family. She also volunteered at La Plata Nursing Home for a number of years. Dorene enjoyed crocheting, reading, watching children in sports, traveling to Florida during the winter, and spending time with friends and family.
Funeral services will be 7:00 p.m. Saturday, September 7, 2013 at Travis Funeral Chapel with visitation beginning at 6:00 p.m.
Private graveside services will be 8:30 a.m. Sunday, September 8, 2013 at Park View Memorial Gardens in Kirksville, Missouri.
