Laura Ann DeGard

Laura Ann DeGard, age 67 of Macon, Missouri, passed away Monday, June 6, 2011 at University Hospital in Columbia, Missouri. She was born on September 8, 1943 in Kirksville, Missouri to Tony and Florence Cecil (Burch) DeGard who both preceded her in death in 1986.
Also preceding her in death were her grandparents George "Doc" and Laura (Harrison) Burch and five cousins, Mary Katheryn (Boozan) Canavit, Van Green, Sam Skinner, Bill Skinner, and Bobby Burgener.
Survivors include one aunt Mrs. Johnny (Eva) DeGard of La Grange, Missouri; ten cousins Doty and John Burgess of Ft. Madison Iowa, Donald “Cookie” and Cecil Burch of Crawfordsville, Iowa, Arthur "Junior" Green, of La Plata, Missouri, Norma Miller of La Plata, Missouri, Eddie and Carol Green of Macon, Missouri, Nellie L. Skinner of Bevier, Missouri, Dickie and Irene Burgener of Georgia, Mrs. Bob (Lois) Burgener of Marceline, Missouri, Jimmie and Laura Belle Burgener of Marceline, Missouri, and Jerry L. and Kathy Burch of Pebble Creek, Arizona; and several other cousins and friends.
Laura Ann moved to La Plata in 1975, having spent her childhood in Iowa. She made her home for the last 25 years at the Macon Group Home in Macon, Missouri. She enjoyed working part-time at the Sheltered Workshop/Diversified Industries, attending Camp Wonderland and Camp Rainbow. She also attended the United Methodist Church in La Plata, Missouri and First Christian Church in Macon, Missouri.
Laura Ann knew no strangers and was a very social person who loved to go places. She always complimented those she met and invited them to visit her. “I like your ring etc.” and “why don’t you come and see me sometime?”
Funeral services will be 2:00 p.m. Friday, June 10, 2011 at Travis Funeral Chapel in La Plata, Missouri. Officiating will be the Reverend Denzil Thomas. Music will be provided by Melvin Bissey and John Gorham singing “In The Garden” and “Take My Hand, Precious Lord”.
Burial will be in the La Plata Cemetery. Pallbearers will be Danny Green, Kerry Green, Robert Green, Stuart Green, Josh Williams, Greg Williams, and Timothy Skinner.
Visitation will be Friday, June 10, 2011 with the family receiving friends from 12:00 p.m. to 2:00 p.m. at the Travis Funeral Chapel, La Plata, Missouri.
